Matters arising from the previous meeting

  1. Correspondence.

Joe Orson as Borough Councillor gave a brief overview from the correspondence received from MBC to give context and bring about discussion with the Councillors present.

Biffa waste contract is 20 years agreement with a review after 10 years. 35% of Council tax generated goes to waste collection.

Regards Nicholas Rushton on Unitary Proposal

8 Councils are planned to be rid of and this was kept secret, 3 months ago nothing was mentioned in the planning meetings

E Mids and W Mids should not be compared with respect to funding.

County Council is running out of money and District have it. They are looking for efficiency but very little detail provided how that will be derived. £30m needs to be saved.

Currently 7 Districts work together and so no set up costs are required. All 7 local MPS are against Unitary Council of Leics South and Leics North.

Alan Duncan in favour of improving partnerships but not Unitary Council. Conservative Gov’t want what the local people want and it’s not Unitary.
